From October 27 to 28, 2024, Professor Olivier Pironneau, an academician of the French Academy of Sciences and a professor at Sorbonne University, was invited to visit the Sino-French Laboratory for Mathematics of Beihang University. During his visit to the Hangzhou International Campus, he delivered an academic lecture, led a seminar in computational mathematics, and was appointed as academic advisor to the Sino-French Laboratory for Mathematics of Beihang University.
On the afternoon of October 27, Academician Olivier Pironneau delivered an academic lecture titled "Radiative Transfer in Cloudy Atmospheres and the Impact of Aircraft Contrails on Climate" at the conference center of Hangzhou International Campus. The lecture attracted over 200 faculty members and students from H3I. During the event, Beihang University Vice President Weisheng Zhao awarded Prof. Pironneau the certificate of appointment as academic advisor to the Sino-French Laboratory for Mathematics, warmly welcoming his visit and expressing hopes for in-depth collaboration with faculty and students at Beihang.
On the morning of October 28, a seminar on computational mathematics was held in Room 2006 of the conference center. Representatives from Beihang University, including Kun Wang, Feng Liu, Sanjin Huang, Weifeng Shang, and Yue Zhang, presented the research achievements and recent progress of their respective teams. Academician Pironneau engaged in in-depth discussions with the participants and offered valuable academic advice.
Olivier Pironneau is a French mathematician, professor at Sorbonne University (formerly known as Pierre and Marie Curie University), and academician of the French Academy of Sciences. He is internationally recognized for his expertise in computational fluid dynamics, scientific computing, computational engineering, optimization design, numerical analysis, and partial differential equations. Pironneau was elected as an academician of the French Academy of Sciences in 2002 and a foreign academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences in 2004. He has received significant awards, including the French National Order of Merit, the Marcel Dassault Prize, and the Blaise Pascal Prize.
